Inspiration:
“From what I could see of the neighbourhood of Redutkale and Mingrelia altogether, the country is plentifully furnished with hills and mountains, large valleys lie between, and the whole are covered with rich woods. The air is on that account moist and unhealthy, and it rains very frequently. The rising sun draws up such dense vapours, that they float like impenetrable clouds, four or five feet above the earth.”
CHAPTER XXII. ASIATIC RUSSIA—ARMENIA, GEORGIA, AND MINGRELIA - A Woman’s Journey round the World by Ida Laura Phieffer, 1850
The Ida’s Travels Jewelry Collection was inspired by passages from Ida Laura Pfeiffer’s first book, A Woman’s Journey round the World, which was first published in 1850. Ida was an Austrian traveler/explorer and popular travel book author. She was educated, industrious, fearless, and she had a great sense of humor. The Ida’s Travels Jewelry Collection was made for a strong, well cultured woman that naturally stands out in a crowd. Each piece in this collection is a one-of-a-kind handmade work of art that was fashioned by NY artist Sarah Schrift. Schrift uses vintage, repurposed and found materials to create accessories for fashionistas, artists, actors, musicians and forward thinkers.
